At twenty, stooping round about, we thought the world a miserable place. Truth a trick, faith in doubt, little beauty and less grace. Now I’m thirty-five it seems, still stooping but a bit more upright. I still see misery but dream that all will be all right. At sixty, although much was well, you had your share of hurt and dark. Life was not a living hell, but nor was it a joyous lark. Now at seventy and what you see, although the world is worse by far, stops your heart in ecstasy. God, the wonders that there are!

You’re so young, so hopeful, so clean. Your eyes are bright, your voices are strong. You think you know that you can do this. You think you know that you can make this work. You think you can make this your job. You think you can do it for love. You seem to think if you work hard enough that you will be rewarded. You seem to think that all your labors will bear fruit. And for now it seems to be working. They like you. They really, really like you. You’re so young, so hopeful, so clean. Your beards are full, your handshakes so strong. You’ve got a job and it’s the one you want. This is your shot; I hope you don’t fuck up.

Free Men 03:57
I’ve had a dream since I was small. Swallowed by men awash in blue. This is how I’d end: absorbed, defiled. Made new, made gone, remade in blue. It might be love; they might destroy me. My heart could stop, my blood run blue. The sun is bright, the desert massive. It hurts my eyes, the sky so blue. Oh, please take me. Make me one with you. Oh, please take me. Erase my soul. I’ve had a dream, wish they would make it true, wish they would wrap me in robes of blue. All that I’ve had, all that I’ve known, all that I’ve seen, I’d trade for blue.

This is everybody’s favorite game. We’ve been playing it as long as we remember. You just stand and count to ten, and we’ll all run away. Then come and try to find us, we’ll see what happens next. Olly olly oxen free. Now it’s your turn, find a spot and run and hide. I’ll come looking for you, see if I can sniff you out. But no matter how long, stay down, stay quiet. I might never find you, you might be that good. You might think that this is cruel, but it’s just a little game. You might think that you’re afraid, but you’re really having fun. You might think that you’re alone, but we’re all in this together. Just keep hiding just keep seeking, you’ll figure it out.

Try to See 04:47
Shining light in my eyes makes it hard to see you, try as I might. Shining eyes spreading light make it hard to see you, to see anything. Look at me, try to see what I see: shining light covers everything. This is all that I have, this is all. All is light, light is everything.
6.
My mommy brought you home. My mommy gave you to me. You are red and you are round; you are big and shiny. Sometimes I rub you on my head, you make my hair stand up. My helium balloon. Sometimes you try to get away, you almost hit the ceiling. I’ll keep you underneath my bed; you’ll always be right there for me.

I Eat Clouds 05:16
Reach the sky. Pull them close. Use my hands. Feel my strength. Make them mine. Hold them tight. Press them down. Feel their weight. I eat clouds. Feel the weight. Hold it close. Take them in. Chew them slow. Hard and soft. Ice and salt. Try to stop. You can’t stop. It’s all I want.
8.
Your feet are so lovely. So smooth, so blue. I know that they’re not right; I know that you can’t stand the sight, but I wish I could hold them, these hard little jewels. I wish I could hold them, keep them in my mouth. I know that you’re broken in so many ways. But I’m trying to help you, and I wish you could see: this might be the only good thing that you get. I wish you could love them the way that I do. The blue of the sky has nothing on you. It’s just you and I and these precious two. I wish I could hold them . . . until they release unbearable milk, and then I’ll become the lady who waits.
9.
Say It Again 04:04
You know I mean it when I say I love you, and if you don’t then I’ll say it again.
10.
It’s better this way, it really is. There’s so much I don’t worry about. What to eat, what to wear, whether somebody loves me, or whether I love them. Best of all, I never have to worry about whether I’ll amount to anything. Whether I’ll ever do anything that anyone will ever give a shit about. I’ve always been employed, I’ve always had a home. I’ve never been jealous of anyone. I’ve never wondered what happens when I die; I know the world will go on like before. I’m like you, and you’re just like me. It’s wonderful to be so free.

The Blue 05:59
The blue is not the shirt you wore when we fucked so well. The blue is not the tarp I saw when I looked out the window. The blue is not the walls I dreamt, or those I painted yellow. The blue is not the stripe around the stone you gave to me. The blue is not the way I feel, I don’t care how deep. The blue is not this book I wrote for you to read or not. The blue is all I have.
